It would appear that our beloved ‘moses’,of #hackuk / #2600uk fame, has gone and got himself engaged. Now living in sunny Perth, Australia, moses is set to marry his fiance, Krysty, in November 2007.

So, from everyone at 2600uk.com and the old school crew of Undernet. Congratulations! :D

Slashdot informs us of an entertaining “hack”…

“….pulled off when Randall Munroe, author of the popular webcomic XKCD, spoke at MIT by invitation of the Lab for Computer Science. MIT hackers dropped hundreds of labelled playpen balls onto the audience from hatches in the ceiling. The labels bore XKCD’s logo as well as the recently discovered 16-byte AACS processing key. At another point in Munroe’s talk he was stalked by remote-controlled mechanical velociraptors; but fortunately he had been supplied with a squirt gun full of grape juice.”

Continuity is a free security convention open to anyone with an interest in computer security, hacking, phone phreaking, telephony, cryptography, warez, internet security/privacy, urban exploration, social engineering and related subjects.

One of our key aims with Continuity is to gather together as many people as possible who were on the old school BBS’s like DaC, Terminal Boredom, Unauthorised Access, Urban XTC, 1066, and the many others, or attended hacker conferences like Access All Areas, Controversy, Conspiracy, Catastrophe and DNSCon, along with people who have attended any of the monthly
UK 2600 meetings.

We would also like to see anybody there with a current interest in computer security and related subjects even if they have never been on a BBS or to a conference before.

COST : Continuity is a completely FREE event

It would appear that this years DNS-CON gathering may have been given a miss. The event which see’s computer enthusiasts from all over the world gather in Blackpool every August failed to have much of a mention this year. However, after speaking to the conferences organiser - Khaldor, I can confirm that DNS-CON is set to go ahead this year, but at the later than usual time of December with the venue being based in Manchester. Plans are still a little sketchy, but I’ll put up new announcements as the details become more finalised.

At this years Black Hat conference in New York, security consultant Brendan O’Connor displayed a proof of concept attack against a Xerox printer. Exploiting vulnerabilities in the printers embedded software; O’Connor was able to snoop on the traffic being passed to the device. During the conference O’Connor highlighted the importance of security in embedded software and pointed out the huge amount of sensitive information that could be leaked if such an attack occurred. Xerox has released a patch for their WorkCenter printers but O’Connor maintains that the issue is not fully resolved.
